The term, ‘civic architecture’ is very broad and represents buildings, facilities, and public spaces that range greatly in program and purpose. Surrounding the ingredient program and purpose exists the opportunity to express a vision – be it of a united ideal, expressed through architectural statement, or a distinctive vision, expressing, or exposing project’s true function.
Frits de Vries Architects & Associates have worked with our public sector clients to design several civic architectural projects – from civic centers to public park spaces.
Being a process-based design firm, FdVA approach each project without preconceived formulas, or solutions, allowing the site and the program to guide our design. We have the expertise and the experience to deliver our clients informed, intelligent designs, and a successful project. We welcome the challenge of designing spaces that offer opportunities for community interaction.
Awards for our Civic Architectural projects include:
• 1997 Governor General’s Award for Architecture
• 1996 Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia Medal in Architecture
